T-Mobile's parent, Deutsche Telekom, reportedly is considering a move to acquire Sprint Nextel, according to several published reports, although they emphasized that no formal offer had been put forth for the carrier.

If such a deal came to fruition, T-Mobile USA would catapult from the No. 4 position to the top carrier spot in terms of subscribers in the U.S., at 81 million. Neither company has commented on the report.
